Arbella topped Donors List to Patrick Inauguration

The State House News Service reported that Arbella topped this year’s list of donors to Governor Patrick’s Inaugural Committee giving $50,000 to the event. In total, Governor Patrick’s Inaugural Committee raised $717,500. The Second Inauguration of Governor Patrick was a more somber affair, held inside rather than outside, but did include a reception at the Grand Staircase and an evening gala at the Boston Public Library as well as a day of Community Service.  David O”Brien, the Inaugural Committee Director, had envisioned, however, that this year’s scaled down celebrations would not surpass the $500,000 mark.

Twelve other companies donated $25,000 each to the Committee including Liberty Mutual.  Blue Cross Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim, Tufts and The Massachusetts Insurance Federation each gave $10,000.  The Travelers Indemnity Co. chipped in $5,000 and rounding out the list was Property Casualty Insurers who made a donation of $2,500.

In 2007, Governor Patrick raised over $2 million for his inauguration and held a five day extravaganza which saw the Governor and Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray visit the four corners of the Commonwealth.  After the 2007 festivities, Governor Patrick’s Inaugural Committee ended up with a $500,000 surplus which it donated to charity.  While figures have not come in for this year’s expenses, it is likely the Governor would do the same with any surpluses from this year’s more scaled-down event.
