Per 2010 email from MAIA: AMICA has been included in auto registration renewals since early 2008. The state receives no dollars from this. The state has an outside vendor which mails the renewals. The state allows the vendor to sell limited advertising to go in the envelope with the renewal. Any profit, after the cost of the mailings, go to the vendor. AMICA has a two year contract which expires early next year. The vendor will then put the “auto insurance insert” out to bid. MAIA had an ad included in the registration renewal for six months in 2008, advertising independent agents.

This question came via email from John Gallagher of The John C. Gallagher Insurance Agency:

"I don't have any particular issues with the Registry; however, we use the UMS system for rating, which indicates the date first licensed in Massachusetts. If the Registry could provide the date first licensed outside of Massachusetts, as well as in state, it would allow more accurate rating at policy inception and enable us to offer lower, more affordable, down payments."
