The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency will be holding a free conference later this week entitled, ” Statewide Hurricane Preparedness Conference” at Devens Conference Center, Devens, MA. The event will be held from 8:00am to 5:00pm and is being billed as an educational opportunity to learn more about hurricane preparedness topics. MEMA, like its Federal counterpart FEMA, is the state agency charged with the primary responsibility for ensuring the Commonwealth’s resilience to disasters.
Guest speakers at the day-long conference will include representatives from the National Hurricane Center from Miami, Florida, the National Weather Service, FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers. The goal will be to allow participants to share ideas and gain knowledge through a variety of avenues including break-out workshops, presentations and panel discussions.
And while the sold-out conference was designed in-mind for State and local Emergency Management and Public Safety officials involved with hurricane preparedness, response and recovery efforts, Agency Checklists thought that the information gathered during this event might be useful to insurance agents who often have a role in dealing with people affected by natural disasters. As such, we have been in contact with MEMA and so hopefully will have a round-up of the conference sometime next week. Stay tuned.
