The SAN Group is an alliance of over 325 independent insurance agencies in the Northeast
J.M. Doherty Insurance Agency, Inc. of New Bedford was named the Satellite Agency Network’s Most Profitable Member Agency of 2011 at the alliance’s annual business meeting. The SAN Group is an alliance of independent insurance agents in the Northeast, with over 325 members who write in excess of $448 million in premiums. The annual event attracted more than 500 insurance industry professionals this year and included continuing education classes, workshops, trade shows, networking reception in addition to its award presentation.
“Jim is one of the most astute and professional insurance agents in the business,” said SAN President and COO Matt Masiello. “J.M. Doherty Insurance Agency Inc. was recognized for their efficiencies in obtaining new clients, maintaining and servicing current clients, and experiencing moderate loss ratios.”
Founded in 1974 by Jim Doherty, the agency offers both personal and commercial insurance products. It joined the SAN network in 1996. The agency has created its own motto entitled “Steering you in the right direction” and keeps on top by offering extra services to its clients including house calls by appointment, free registry runs, and a 24-hour emergency answering service.
Two other Massachusetts agencies received awards
In addition to J.M. Doherty, two other Massachusetts agencies were also presented with awards of excellence.
East Coast Insurance Agency, also of New Bedford, MA, received the AccessPlus Agent of the Year. It is a local independent agency with more than 18 years experience in protection services for families and businesses.

The Chan Insurance Agency was also recognized by SAN with their Member Agency Annual Commitment Achiever award. Founded in 1983, the Boston-based agency offers an array of personal and commercial insurance products in both English and Chinese.
