The Mass DOI made the announcement in Bulletin 2012-06 issued July 17, 2012
The Division of Insurance issued Bulletin 2012-06 to notify resident and nonresident surplus lines brokers licensed in Massachusetts, as well as any persons or business entities seeking to become licensed as a surplus lines broker in Massachusetts, that the Division of Insurance will be transitioning from paper to elecontric application filings.
As of July 18, 2012, the Division will be accepting both original surplus lines broker applications and surplus lines broker license renewals using the National Insurance Producer Registry (“NIPR”) Gateway. The Division said that it will also continue to accept initial and renewal paper applications by surplus line brokers until September 17, 2012. This will provide all affected parties with enough time to accommodate the Division’s changes to the licensing procedure.
After September 17, however, the DOI will only accept online applications for surplus lines brokers via the NIPR Gateway. Any further paper applications or process fees sent to the DOI for initial licensure or renewal will be rejected. All fees must also be paid via the NIPR Gateway which accepts both credit card and EFT payments.
The National Insurance Producer Registry is a non-profit affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. The Mass DOI requests that any surplus lines broker licensing issues or concerns regarding this new procedure be directed to the Division’s Producer Licensing Department at (617)521-7794. More information can also be found on the National Insurance Producer Registry website.
