MAPFRE/Commerce continues to outpace every insurer in Massachusetts claiming a 27% share of the private passenger marketplace.
In 2013, MAPFRE/Commerce continued to dominate the private passenger automobile insurance marketplace with its 27% market share. However, this number is three percentage points lower than the position it held in 2008.
According to the following graph from Commonwealth of Automobile Reinsurers, only two direct writers, Liberty Mutual and GEICO, made the Top Ten List this year, taking the second and seventh spots respectively. GEICO first appeared in the Top Ten List in 2012 with a 3.1% market share. It has again increased its position this year by a percentage point, now claiming the seventh spot on the list. Liberty Mutual which in 2008 held the fourth spot on the list with a 8.8% market share has increased its market share percentage by 3.3% points over the last four years. It now claims the second spot on the list behind MAPFRE/Commerce.
