Corcoran & Havlin is a Five Star Agency headquartered in Wellesley
Bangor, Maine’s Cross Insurance, through its subsidiary CHIG, Inc. has acquired the assets of the Corcoran & Havlin Insurance Agency of Wellesley.
A repeated recipient of the MAIA’s Five Star Agency Distinction, the Corcoran & Havlin Insurance Group started as a Main Street Agency in Wellesley in 1967. Over the last four decades the agency has grown to become one of the largest independent insurance agencies in New England with three locations in Wellesley, Medfield and Duxbury and over 50 employees.
Owners Jack Keefe and George Doherty say it was the right time and the right company to sell their agency to.
“We are delighted to join forces with Cross Insurance,” said Jack Keefe. “We believe this partnership will only enhance the products and services we can offer our current and potential customers.” George Doherty, Keefe’s partner for the past 20 years added, “Cross Insurance has a stellar reputation and we are very excited to team up with such a great organization. We are really looking forward to the future and the growth opportunities that this relationship will bring with it.”
According to the terms of the transaction, both Mr. Keefe and Mr. Doherty will join Cross Insurance after the merger and will continue to lead the Corcoran & Havlin Agency following the completion of the transaction.
Jack and George have built a first-class organization and have a knowledgeable and dedicated staff supporting them. We are extremely pleased that they have agreed to join our organization and we look forward to having them as part of our leadership team,” said Royce Cross, CEO of Cross Insurance upon the announcement of this deal.
Started in Bangor in 1954, Cross Insurance now boasts eight locations in Massachusetts
A family-owned agency, Woodrow Cross began Cross Insurance in Bangor, Maine in 1954. The company now counts more than 400 employees operating out of a variety of locations in Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Florida.
With the acquisition of Corcoran & Havlin, Cross Insurance now boasts eight locations alone in the Commonwealth. As CEO Royce Cross explains on the company’s website, being a family-owned agency themselves makes Cross Insurance an “attractive alternative” for many independent agencies looking to sell. “When an agency is looking to us as a buyer, they’re talking to someone who runs a family-owned business that is exclusively insurance.”
