On Friday, October 16, 2016 over 500 members of the Massachusetts insurance industry came together to toast the 14th Annual Insurance Professional of the Year Winner. The annual awards luncheon held in the Imperial Ballroom at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel honored John A. Myers, Chairman of the A.I.M. Mutual Insurance Companies of Massachusetts for his 45-year insurance career.

Established in 2002 by the Richard Simches Fund, the Insurance Professional of the Year Award is presented each year by The Insurance Library Association of Boston to “…a person who demonstrates leadership and exemplifies those qualities that engender understanding of and respect for the insurance industry.”  The selection process is conducted by a cross-section of the insurance industry and as such carries with it that added significance.

The Awards Ceremony

A cocktail hour and silent auction begin the Awards Luncheon giving everyone a chance to hobnob and catch up with colleagues old and new from both agencies and insurance companies alike. Among those in attendance to honor Mr. Myers included 2014 Award winner and MAIA President & CEO Francis A. Mancini, 2013 winner and Vice Chairman of Arbella, Francis X. Bellotti, Commissioner of Insurance Daniel Judson, Insurance Library of Boston’s Executive Director Glenn Cryan and Library Trustees along with many professionals from the major Massachusetts-based insurers.

After lunch, Mr. Myer’s son John Myers IV gave a rousing speech honoring his father followed by another stirring speech from Mr Myers successor at A.I.M. Mutual, Michael Standing. Mr. Myer’s then took the podium giving a heartfelt speech that resulted in a standing ovation.

In addition to the speeches, the ceremony also held an In Memoriam moment for those professionals, colleagues and friends who were lost this past year including Andre Sansoucy of Melick & Porter, LLP, Donald Malecki, CPCU and John B. Gray, Jr., CIC, of SFC Consulting.
