Two well-known family-owned and operated insurance agencies have merged. Ross Insurance Agency, an independent insurance agency based in Holyoke has been acquired by the Webber and Grinnell Insurance Agency of Northampton.

“Ross Insurance is synonymous with community and trust,” said Bill Grinnell, president of Webber and Grinnell. “We are thrilled to have their staff joining our team and enabling us to serve clients across the entire Pioneer Valley. Kevin and Maureen are incredible insurance professionals, and I look forward to Maureen joining our ownership group.”

Added Ross O’Connell, “we feel that we found the perfect partner to continue the Ross family legacy. Webber and Grinnell has a long history of generous community support and exceptional customer service.”

Serving the Holyoke Community for 93 years

Founded by George Ross in 1925, the Ross family’s agency has provided personal and commercial lines insurance to the Holyoke and surrounding communities. With the changing nature of the insurance industry here in Massachusetts, the third generation of the Ross family, which consists of brother and sister team Kevin Ross and Maureen Ross O’Connell, eventually made the decision to sell their agency.

According to the terms of the transaction, Maureen Ross O’Connell will continue on with the re-branded Ross, Webber and Grinnell Insurance at its Holyoke operation at 150 Lower Westfield Road. Ms. Ross O’Connell’s brother, Kevin Ross, will stay on for a period of time but plans to retire sometime over the next 18 months.

Webber and Grinnell has been an independent insurance agency for over 150 years

Webber and Grinnell traces its insurance roots to 1849 when E.W. Thayer opened an insurance and real-estate storefront on Pleasant Street in Northampton. Since then, the agency has grown and evolved over the past 169 years and now employs 41 people serving more than 6,000 insureds in Western and Central Massachusets.
