Both are independent insurance agencies based in Western Mass.
Greylock Insurance Agency, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Greylock Federal Credit Union has purchased the Roger Butler Insurance Agency. A well-known independent insurance agency based in Westfield, the Roger Butler Insurance Agency is owned and operated by Roger & Clarissa, the fourth-generation of the Butler family.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the employees and customers of RBI to Greylock,” said Greylock Vice President, Lori Goodell. “The more we spoke with Roger and Clarissa about this merger, the more excited we became. Our shared culture, our approach to our work, even our carriers are a great fit.”

According to the terms of the transaction, RBI’s office and customers will officially become a part of Greylock Insurance Agency upon completion of the transaction. The agency, however, will continue to operate as a separate location until later this year, in order to facilitate a smooth transition. Both Roger Butler, Jr. and Clarissa Butler-Simone will also continue on with the agency during the transition in order to ensure a seamless transition for the agency’s former insureds and employees.
“I am so grateful for the customer and community relationships we have formed over the years together,” said Mr. Butler in commenting on the sale of the agency. “I wanted to make sure that the personal service and commitment to excellence Butler Insurance is known for continues without interruption. That’s one of the main reasons we have partnered with Greylock,” he added, noting that as they began looking towards the next step for their agency, they met with many potential suitors before agreeing that Greylock was the best choice.
Roger Butler Insurance Agency has been a family-owned and operated agency since 1902

According to its website, RBI was founded in Westfield back in 1902 by Arthur Green. The agency, then known as Bryan & Green, went on to serve its surrounding communities in Massachusetts and Connecticut for the next 40 years. In 1949, the agency moved to its current location in the historic Morgan Building in Westfield, one of the oldest buildings located in the town.
Going forward, GIA will locate its operations to the centrally-located 5 Court St. office on the historic town green that RBI currently occupies.
