The Insurance Library has named Michael A. Pezza Jr. as its Executive Director.
Pezza’s appointment was announced at The Library’s annual Insurance Professional of the Year Award luncheon on October 28.
Pezza, a long-time resident of Newton, is a lawyer, mediator, and arbitrator. He has more than four decades of experience as a lawyer, with most of his practice focused on representing insurers and their insureds in a wide range of matters in state and federal courts in Massachusetts and other states.
He was for many years a partner in the Boston office of Morrison, Mahoney & Miller (now Morrison Mahoney) where he represented domestic and foreign insurers, including Underwriters at Lloyd’s, London. He later joined the Boston office of Holland & Knight, where he was a member of the media and intellectual property teams in the firm’s litigation section.
Pezza then started his own law and dispute resolution practices and served as an arbitrator or referee in high-exposure insurance disputes. He was an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University School of Law for more than a decade, where he taught entertainment law. He also was a contributing author in a leading treatise on publishing law.
Pezza is an active supporter of Colgate University, where he serves as class president and reunion program chair, and as a member of his class’s annual fund committee. He is also a member of the CPCU Society and its Boston chapter.
Meredith Mangan, President of The Library’s Board of Trustees, said, “The Trustees of The Library are delighted to welcome Michael to the role of Executive Director for our treasured institution. He is uniquely qualified to further the mission of The Insurance Library to enrich the insurance and risk management community.”
The Insurance Library, which was founded in 1887 and is located on State Street in Boston, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enrich the insurance and risk management community by preserving the history of insurance, offering unsurpassed research services, providing and supporting professional education, and facilitating engagement.
