The Strike Force Is Credited With Decreasing Auto Theft in Massachusetts by 89 percent
The Eagle-Tribune is reporting that the Massachusetts Auto Theft Strike Force, created by former Governor Dukakis in 1993 is being disbanded. Originally a 25-member unit consisting of five FBI agents, five state troopers, five Boston police officers, five metropolitan police officers and five Registry of Motor Vehicles inspectors, the strike force was tasked with helping reverse Massachusetts’ reputation as the stolen car capital of the U.S.
Twenty years on, the State Police, who now manages the strike force, has made the decision to close it down in order to focus those resources on other needed areas.
