Joseph P. Leahy, Jr., President of Leahy and Brown Insurance in Springfield has been elected as the at-large member of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America’s (IIABA) Executive Committee for 2013-2014. Joe will move through the office chairs of the IIABA Board and assume the IIABA Chairmanship in the fall of 2018.
Joe is currently concluding his six year term as MAIA’s representative on the IIABA Board. He was elected to the MAIA Board in 1999 and served as MAIA’s Chairman in 2005. Joe is currently a member of the Commonwealth of Automobile Reinsurers (CAR) Governing Committee and has served on a number of IIABA committees, most recently on the Government Affairs Committee.
When Joe assumes the IIABA Chairmanship, he will join four other Massachusetts agents who have reached the highest volunteer positions in the national association: Edwin J. Cole, Fall River (1934); Howard H. Leighton, Lowell (1970); Frederick J. England, Jr. CPCU, Cambridge, 1984; and William J. Hofmann, III, CPCU, CLU, AAA, CIC, LIA, Belmont, 2000.
Commenting on Joe’s election, MAIA President and CEO Frank Mancini stated, “Simply, Joe is a roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty kind of guy. His family-owned, mid-size agency reflects the profile of most of our MAIA members and, I’m sure, most IIABA members countrywide. MAIA has been fortunate to have had Joe on our Board for the past 14 years. Massachusetts agents are lucky that Joe has been willing to share his time and talent on their behalf. I know that Joe will bring the same qualities to the IIABA Executive Committee that have made him an outstanding volunteer in Massachusetts.”
