All it takes is two taps of an app to become insured
A new app for drone insurance has launched in Massachusetts. Verifly, the new online on-demand drone insurance site now offers instant insurance for both recreational and commercial flights for any drone under 15 lbs. The app allows one the spot, instant approval for insurance and provides $1,000,000 dollars of drone liability insurance for 1/4 mile around the flight area in which the drone is being operated. The cost is only $10 an hour.[pullquote]Similar to the rise in popularity of cars and the insurance market that followed, as drone use increases so does the need for insurance – Verifly[/pullquote]
Massachusetts is just one of 40 states where the new on-demand insurance app is offered
Licensed as an insurance producer, Verifly, is now available to consumers in Massachusetts along with 40 other states around the nation. It is also now available in four other New England states: New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
How Verifly actually works…
According to Verifly, an estimated 81% of Us commercial drone operators are uninsured. With the likely growth in both commercial and recreational drone operators over the next four years, Verifly is positioning itself to be the leader in instant insurance in this marketplace.
The insurance app company says it combines both mapping technology and real-time conditions to advise users of any potential flying risks. Its insurance services are provided through Verify Insurance Services, Inc., a New York-based company, while the policies are underwritten by Global Aerospace, Inc.
The team behind Verifly…
Verifly was co-founded by Jay Bregman and Eugene Hertz. Prior to starting Verifly, Mr. Bregman founded both the ride-hailing app Hailo, and eCourier, an automated same-day courier service that is now a part of the U.K.’s Royal Mail.
For his part, Mr. Hertz was a co-founder and Chief Information Office of Quidsi, the family of e-commerce sites, including Diapers.com, which was acquired by Amazon. As we like to mention all things Massachusetts on this site, Mr. Hertz’s ties here include graduating from the Univeristy of Massachusetts with an individualized BS Degree from the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering department.
