Great Barrington’s Wheeler & Taylor Insurance has acquired the Great Barrington office of GoodWorks Insurance. Both are independent insurance agencies based in the Berkshires. While GoodWorks Insurance is based in both New England and New York, Wheeler & Taylor, has been an independent insurance agency based in Great Barrington since 1871 and has five locations throughout the Berkshires, including Great Barrington, Sheffield, Stockbridge, Pittsfield, and Dalton.
Both owners will continue to play an important role
Per the terms of the purchase and sales, Chad Yonker, chairman of GoodWorks Insurance, will become both shareholder of Wheeler & Taylor as well as chairman of the independent agency. George A. Ryan, Jr., who is the current president of Wheeler & Taylor, will continue on in the same position indefinitely as well as remain as the company’s majority stakeholder.
“We’ve formed a strategic alliance,” Mr. Yonker said in commenting on the merger. “We’ll work together on all aspects of each other’s businesses, allowing us to better serve our clients and creating more opportunity for growth at both organizations.”
Both GoodWorks Insurance an Wheeler & Taylor, offer a full range of personal and commercial lines products to clients ranging from individuals to multi-national manufacturers, with GoodWorks even offering surety bonds through its affiliate Metayer Bonding Associates.
As part of the strategic alliance, the agencies also will continue on with their charitable contributions to the community with Wheeler & Taylor announsing that it will license the GoodWorks Insurance charitable-giving program which supports both local charities and organizations in Massachusetts.
