On April 10, 2013, Liberty Mutual announced that its Board of Directors elected David H. Long, 52, to be the next Chairman of Liberty Mutual Insurance. The appointment will be effective June 28, 2013. He succeeds Edmund F. (Ted) Kelly, 67, who will retire as Chairman and Director at the end of June.
“All of us at Liberty Mutual Insurance owe Ted Kelly a tremendous debt of gratitude for his leadership and vision in transforming Liberty Mutual Insurance into the fifth largest global property and casualty insurer,” said Mr. Long. “On behalf of our 50,000 employees worldwide, I wish Ted and his family the very best in the years ahead.”
Mr. Long who became the company’s President in 2010 and its Chief Executive Officer in 2011 has served in various leadership positions during his 28-year career with the company. The Boston-based insurer, founded in 1912, celebrated its centennial last year. It is currently the third largest property and casualty insurer in the U.S. and ranks 84th on the Fortune 100 list of the largest corporations in the country.
