The change of leadership occurred during the New Year
President and CEO Charles “Chuck” Robinson has retired from Rogers & Gray. In announcing the leadership change, the Cape Cod-based agency says that Mr. Robinson’s two sons, Michael and David Robinson, will succeed him as Chairman of the Board and President & CEO, respectively. In a career spanning over forty years, Mr. Robinson said that his decision to retire was not a sudden one but rather a well-planned departure.
“Rogers & Gray has been preparing for this transition for close to 10 years.” Said Chuck. “The timing is right for Michael and David to jointly take control of the Company and lead it forward. I have no doubts that they, along with our fantastic team of employees, will continue the legacy of exceptional service that Rogers & Gray is known for. I am excited to see the Agency’s continued growth, customer service focus and commitment to the community the Agency serves.
Mr. Robinson first joined the Rogers & Gray in 1970, eventually going on to purchase the Agency ten years later. Under his leadership the agency has grown from three locations and 12 employees in 1980 to eight locations and 130 employees.
In addition to running Rogers & Gray for over 40 years, Mr. Robinson has been an active member of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents. In addition to being a former Director of the MAIA he also has served on several insurance industry Advisory Boards. His other community and charitable work including being the President of the Big Brothers Big Sisters, Chair of the Board of Heritage Museums and Gardens, Chairperson of the Cape Cod Hospital Board of Trustees and Board of Trustees of Plimoth Plantation, Duffy Health Center, Hospice and Boards and Committees of non-profits.
In 2014, his last year as the President of Rogers and Gray, the company received numerous accolades including being picked as one of the nation’s “Best of the Best by MarchBerry. Later in the year, the Insurance Journal named it as one of the nation’s Top 100 Independent Insurance Agency and #1 Agency to work for in New England.
A look at the new generation leading one of Massachusetts largest family-owned agencies
Michael Robinson joined Rogers & Gray in 2003, after working in finance and strategic planning for 2 large health care organizations in Boston. As the new Chairman of the Board, Mr. Robinson will oversee the Sales, Marketing, IT and Finance departments of the Company.
In addition to his expanded role at Rogers & Gray, Mr. Robinson also is a current chair of the Advisory Council at A Baby Center and is the co-founder of the Cape Cod Young Professionals. His extensive community involvement also includes membership on the Board of Directors of the Cape Cod YMCA, Hyannis Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Harwich-Dennis, The Rehab Hospital Cape & Islands, Cape Cod Playhouse, and Cape Cod Foundation.
A graduate of Ithaca College, Mr. Robinson also has an MBA from the University of Massachusetts.
David Robinson joined Rogers & Gray in 2005, after beginning his career in the financial planning sector. After joining Rogers & Gray, he put that prior experience to good use in the Employee Benefits and Personal Insurance divisions at the agency. In his new role as president & CEO, Mr. Robinson will be responsible for the Agency’s total service operations in addition to Human Resources.
A graduate of Tabor Academy and the University of Colorado, Mr. Robinson sits on various advisory councils for insurance companies. He is a co-founder of the South Shore Young Professionals and is a Board Member and Executive Committee Member of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce, Trustee of South Shore Hospital Foundation and immediate past Chairman of the Board and current Board Member at Cape Abilities.
