On June 7, 2017, Cedric Maxwell, the former Celtic star and radio commentator, will will be the guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Metro South Independent Insurance Agents Association (MSIIAA) at the Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton.
Guest speaker Cedric Maxwell
Mr. Maxwell, who had a twelve-year career in the NBA, played eight years for the Boston Celtics. He was named the Most Valuable Player when the Celtics won their 14th championship in Houston in 1981. In the 1984 final game championship game against the Lakers, Mr. Maxwell’s team high of 24 points, eight rebounds and eight assists led the Celtics to their 15th NBA title. The Celtics retired his number 31 in 2003 in a halftime ceremony and raised it to the roof of TD Garden
After retiring from the NBA, he coached for the Long Island Surf of the USBL and became a radio broadcaster for Celtics games. He has broadcast over the last twenty-two years on well over one thousand Celtics’ games. Mr. Maxwell also has been a popular radio host and commentator on a number of local sports shows and has appeared in documentaries relating to basketball including the critically acclaimed HBO documentary about Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, “Bird and Magic, a Courtship of Rivals.”
Networking, luncheon and election of officers
The annual meeting will include networking, a luncheon, short introductory remarks by the association’s president, Marc Lane, a brief board election of the officers and directors for the coming year and the guest speaker, Mr. Maxwell.
The schedule of the event allows for minimal time away from the office for attendees:
11:30 – 12:00 pm – Networking
12:00 – Luncheon and Introductory remarks with MSIIAA board president Marc Lane
12:25 – Brief board business with election of the 2017-2019 Officers and Directors
12:30 – Guest Speaker: Cedric Maxwell, Celtics Legend and Radio Color Analyst
