Local Re-Max Agency Branches Into Insurance With New Agency

May 15, 2018 by AC Editor

Winchester’s Scotti Insurance will be a co-owner of the new agency

Massachusetts Re/Max franchise Re/Max Leading Edge is getting into the insurance business. The real estate company recently announced that it will be launching a new insurance agency, aptly named Leading Edge Insurance, to offer its customers a “one-stop” shopping experience.

“Consumers today are looking for one-stop shopping experience,” said Paul Mydelski, the founder of Re/Max Leading Edge, in a prepared statement. “The real estate transaction requires the advice and services of not only the real estate professional but a mortgage lender, attorney and insurance agent as well. Often times the insurance requirement is an afterthought and becomes a last-minute purchase. This partnership provides an opportunity for us to provide that one-stop solution.”

According to the company announcement, the new venture will be co-owned and operated by Mydelski alongside Re/Max Leading Edge’s Chief Executive Linda O’Koniewski, as well as broker-owner Steve Chuha and Eileen Hamblin. In addition, independent agent Mike Scott, who is the owner of Scotti Insurance Agency, will also serve as a co-owner of the new entity. Founded over 71 years ago, Scotti Insurance is an independent insurance agency based in downtown Winchester.

The start of a new trend?

This is the second real estate agency to launch an insurance agency so far this year. In January of this year, Norwell-based Radius Financial announced its  decision to open The Radius Insurance Group, Inc., a full-service agency servicing both commercial and personal lines, including auto, home, property, flood and life insurance.

In both of these cases, each of the companies said their decision to start an insurance agency was based on their desire to give their customers a “one-stop shopping experience.”

While it may be too early to say whether this is the start of a new trend, we thought our readers would be interested to know about these new additions to the Massachusetts insurance industry.
