She also especially thanked all of the Chapter’s sponsors for their help in offering resources and educational opportunities since member dues make up only a small portion of the Society’s budget. In closing, she noted that it had been a great year as President asked her fellow members in attendance to reflect on “what you’re going to do with your membership.”

Ms. Warner then went noted how the CPCU designation, which had started as an education in insurance for her, has blossomed
into an incredible array of opportunities and experiences that she could not have anticipated when she
joined the board in 2015. She concluded her remarks by stating that her goal for the year ” …is to take advantage of our expanded digital presence, increase transparency, and engage members to lead from their spot.”

After finishing her remarks, Ms. Warner then introduced the Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance Gary Anderson who gave a speech congratulating the new leadership and about his need as a regulator, to see the market from a “new perspective” and the importance of adapting to change. In particular, he highlighted the importance of insurance to our society at large, and “…how new ideas can change old processes, even in a heavily regulated industry such as ours.” He also affirmed that the Division invites and wants to work with carriers as they develop those ideas.

In addition, Commissioner Andersen also discussed how state insurance departments are considering addressing “climate risk as a national priority, as is the IAIS.” He went on to discuss his role on the Climate and Resiliency Executive Task Force. He noted, in particular, that “…one of the challenges to regulators is making clear to insurance buyers what the relationship is between mitigation of risks and insurance policy costs. Property owners and businesses shouldn’t make insurance an afterthought. They need to be aware of the real policy costs.”

After finishing his remarks, Ms. Warner thanked the Commisioner before adjourning the meeting shortly thereafter.
