Former Counsel to the Commissioner of Insurance Joins CCC
The Cannabis Control Commission has filled a slate of important positions in its legal and financial departments. Among the recent appointments is the naming of Kristina Gasson as the CCC’s new general counsel.
Attorney Gasson comes to the CCC from her job as deputy general counsel at the Division of Occupational Licensure. Previously, she was legal counsel and presiding officer at the Department of Unemployment Assistance.
From 2016 through April 2019, she served as legal counsel and presiding officer at the Division of Insurance, where she managed and conducted formal hearings on enforcement actions against insurance producers and companies, insurance rate and performance standards review, approving mergers and acquisitions, and monitoring financial solvency of insurance companies. In addition, she also was responsible for conducting public hearings on state regulations and the insurance industry standards.
The CCC says she played a role in launching the inaugural management team at the Department of Family and Medical Leave.
In addition to her appointment, the CCC also announced that Lisa Schlegel was hired as the CCC’s new chief financial and accounting officer, responsible for financial management and budget development. Schlegel worked at Quinsigamond Community College for the last 12 years, four as the Worcester community college’s comptroller. And Mark McDevitt, a former Executive Office for Administration and Finance employee, joined the CCC as its director of budget and accounting. He previously worked at John Hancock, Fidelity Investments, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
