Cross Insurance now operates three agencies in Berkshire County
Cross Insurance recently announced that it has acquired another Massachusetts insurance agency in Berkshire County. The latest to join the Cross Insurance family is the Colt Insurance Agency of Pittsfield, which was officially acquired by the Maine-based agency on October 12th. With this latest acquisition, Cross Insurance now operates three branches in Berkshire County: Colt Insurance Agency, the Bardwell, Bowlby & Karam Insurance Agency, Inc., (which was acquired earlier this year) and Cross Surety – Dalton.
An independent insurance agency for over 80 years
Founded in 1936 by Samuel G. Colt, Colt Insurance has been based in Pittsfield for over 80 years. While first appointed the district agency for the Aetna Life Insurance Company, Colt Insurance has grown over the past eight decades to offer not only life insurance, but a “full suite of services” including private passenger auto, homeowners, personal, umbrella, medical professional, commercial multi-peril, workers’ compensation, commercial property, and health and disability.
Cross Insurance now has a dozen locations throughout Massachusetts
Founded in 1954 by Woodrow Cross, Cross Insurance has grown via strategic acquisitions over the past 60 years to become one of the largest insurance agencies in New England. Still family-owned and operated, the agency now boasts more than 700 employees operating out of 35 offices located in Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Florida. With the addition of Colt Insurance, Cross Insurance, a subsidiary of Cross Financial Corp., greatly expands its footprint in western Massachusetts, as well as its presence in New York and southern Vermont.
