A New Executive Director for The Insurance Library of Boston

July 16, 2012 by AC Editor

Agency Checklists' articles on the Insurance Library Association of Boston, MassachusettsEllen Barnett, CPCU, joined the Insurance Library Association of Boston today as its new Executive Director. Her addition adds to the Library’s existing executive team of Jean Lucey, CPCU, Meagan Stefanow, and Sara Hart, as well as the Library’s Board of Trustees and the members of the Association.

A Massachusetts insurance professional for more than 20 years, Ms. Barnett spent the majority of it with Acadia Insurance. During her long career with the company, she worked as a Senior Casualty Claim Representative/Director of Claims, AVP/Senior Director of Claims and then most recently as Vice President of Acadia’s Synergy Risk Management program. She is also the current President of the CPCU Society, Boston Chapter, a position that she will continue to hold concurrently with her new position at the Library.

As Executive Director, Ms. Barnett’s main priorities will be to reintroduce many in the Massachusetts insurance industry to the Library and its offerings as well as reminding all of the Library’s preeminent position as the country’s oldest insurance resource center. In addition, Ms. Barnett also will seek to strengthen the Library’s partnerships outside of Massachusetts, by working with other national and international insurance organizations such as The International CPCU Society and The Institutes (AICPCU).  Another important part of her position will include creating and executing an outreach effort to college students to increase their awareness about the variety of careers available in the insurance industry.

As the oldest and only remaining private insurance library supported solely by its members, the Insurance Library, founded in 1887,  has served the Massachusetts insurance industry faithfully for 125 years. A perfect example is the upcoming Education Fair that the Library will be hosting later this summer in August. It remains an unparalleled resource that every independent insurance agent in Massachusetts would do well to take advantage of.
