In Memoriam: Rocco Basso, 1937-2025

September 11, 2025 by AC Editor

Mr. Rocco Was a Former Principal of Basso Insurance Agency and VP of Eastern Insurance Group

HAVERHILL – Rocco Basso, 87, lifelong Haverhill resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 14, 2025. Born September 22, 1937, he was the son of the late Anthony J. and Helen (Goudreault) Basso.

Rocco Basso

A graduate of Haverhill High School and the Maryland Casualty School of Insurance, Rocco began his career at the Haverhill Italian American Credit Union before serving more than 35 years as a principal of the Basso Insurance Agency with his cousin, Robert Basso. He retired as Vice President of Eastern Insurance Group. In addition to his long career in insurance, Mr. Rocco served on the boards of the Haverhill Italian American Credit Union, Haverhill Bank, and the Haverhill Country Club, where he was also a past President.

An avid golfer, he was the club’s longest-tenured member since joining in 1959 and maintained a single-digit handicap well into his 70s. He was also a past member of the Lions and Rotary Clubs of Greater Haverhill, contributing his time and energy to many local causes.

A devoted New England Patriots season ticket holder since 1967 and a longtime Boston Bruins fan, Rocco attended numerous Super Bowls and World Series games, often when his friend Dick Stello was umpiring. He enjoyed annual golf trips with friends and playing top courses throughout New England and the U.S.

Above all, Rocco loved time with family. He is survived by his wife, Donna (Mottram) Comeau Basso; son Paul R. Basso, and his children Olivia, Rocco, and Daniel; daughter, Pamela M. Basso, her life partner Daniel Antonelli, and her children Christopher and Marissa Janco; his stepson, Thomas Comeau and wife Amber, and their children, Jason, Kylie, Ruth, and Gus. He leaves his sister Nancy Karam and her husband George; brother-in-law Dr. Theodore Souliotis; daughter-in-law Jacqueline Basso; son-in-law Mark Janco; generations of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Marcia A. (Fenlon) Basso, and his sister Judith Souliotis.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Rocco L. Basso to: Boys and Girls Club of Greater Haverhill, 55 Emerson St., Haverhill, MA 01830.
