The Top 20 Workers’ Compensation Insurers In Massachusetts

Note: We first published this list in January of this year, but thought that it might be interesting to look at it again alongside the other worker’s comp. articles we have this week. For those readers who have asked us, all of our market share information comes from the Division of Insurance. The current information is based on 2013 numbers, the last year for which data is currently available.

The top 20 workers’ comp. insurance companies write just under 57% of all risks in Massachusetts

There are a total of 239 companies that write workers’ compensation insurance in Massachusetts according to data furnished by the Division of Insurance.

The total direct written premium for these companies in the Commonwealth is $1,033,187,910.

Of that amount, the top 20 workers’ compensation companies have a direct written premium of $588,277,821 representing a 56.9% market share.

The remaining 219 companies who write workers’ comp. insurance in the Commonwealth have a combined direct written premium of $444,910,089 representing a 43.1% market share.
