The Mass. Division of Insurance Will Hold Regulatory Review Public Comment Sessions in August

July 21, 2015 by AC Editor

All of the DOI’s existing regulations will be reviewed

As part of a statewide effort, the Division of Insurance has announced that it will be undertaking an extensive review of all of its existing regulations in order to determine those regulations that “…may have become outdated, ineffective or counter-intuitive.”  Specifically, the Division is seeking to identify:

  • …whether any costs associated with the regulation exceed the benefits that result from the particular regulation;
  • whether the regulation exceeds federal requirements or duplicate local requirements; whether less restrictive alternatives to the particular regulation exist; and
  • whether the regulation unduly and adversely affects Massachusetts citizens and consumers, or the competitive environment in Massachusetts.

To assist it in the review of these existing regulations, the Division has scheduled public sessions throughout the month of August to hear testimony and receive comment from the public and/or interested insurance industry members concerning the DOI’s existing regulations. The six public comment sessions scheduled will be organized by a specific insurance subject-matter topic. For example, the review of all regulations involving automobile insurance will take place on August 11th from  Of note, the public comment session on the DOI’s regulations concerning automobile insurance will take place on Tuesday, August 11th from 10:30 – 12:30am.

For those interested in attending, all six public comment sessions are open to both the general public and insurance industry members. All six of the review sessions will take place at the Division’s offices located at 1000 Washington Street, Boston in Hearing Room 1-E.
