Two Mass. Agencies Claim Top Spots As “Best Agencies To Work For”

October 27, 2015 by AC Editor

Both agencies are family-owned independent agencies based in Massachusetts

In its annual look at the Best Agencies To Work For in America, the Insurance Journal takes a look at which agencies in the United States are the happiest and most satisfied employees. This year, the national publication chose Cape Cod’s own Rogers & Gray Insurance as the 2015 “Best Overall Agency to Work For” in the United States.

Criteria for selection to this list includes reviewing an agency’s programs and benefits, a company’s charitable efforts, its community outreach as well as the opportunities it provides for an employee’s growth, access to technology, education opportunities and overall personal job satisfaction.

“People, culture, strong leadership, respect, profitability, growth and community involvement are a few of the reasons why Rogers & Gray Insurance took this year’s “Overall Best Agency to Work For” award, writes Andrea Wells, Editor in Chief of Insurance Journal.

In commenting on the distinction awarded to his agency, David Robinson, President & CEO of Rogers & Gray said “Words cannot begin to describe how proud we are of this honor.  It is because of each and every one of our employees, that our working environment is outstanding, our corporate culture is strong, and our future is bright.”

“We have the ‘best of the best’ at Rogers & Gray,” added Michael Robinson, Chairman of the Board. “Receiving this honor is a direct reflection on the exceptional group of people we have at the agency and our concentrated focus on hiring people who bring a tremendous amount of knowledge and value to our clients, community and one another.”

In order to be nominated and considered for the annual list, a certain percentage of employees must not only nominate their agency, but then answer questions about their employer. In Rogers & Gray’s case over half of the agency’s 120 employees nominated the company this year.

“We take pride in offering employees a strong suite of benefits and the agency takes great pride in our community involvement and actively supports the efforts of our team members.”

This is not the first time that Rogers & Gray has appeared on the list. In 2014, the agency was selected as a Silver Finalist in the East Region category and the top spot in all of New England.

“Employees of the winning agencies say that happiness in the workplace has a lot to do with people, relationships and culture.” Wells writes. “The best agencies to work for also provide employees with a strong sense of work-life balance, and deliver a workplace environment where employees feel supported wholeheartedly by management and their peers.”

Belmont independent agency WTPhelan also was recognized by the Insurance Journal this year as the “2015 Gold Winner” for the Best Insurance Agency to work for in the East Region of the US. Founded in 1898, WT Phelan is a fourth generation family-owned and operated agency with five locations within the Commonwealth and approximately 50 employees.

Robert Ramsey, a Principal of WTPhelan, commented on LinkedIn in response to his agency’s selection as the 2015 Gold Winner this year. “On behalf of our management and employees, we want to celebrate this distinction with customers, partners, and community.”
