“Celebrating the Decades – Becoming Agents of Change” was the theme
Nearly 500 insurance industry professionals from eight states descended on the DCU Center in Worcester last month for the annual business meeting of the Satellite Agency Network Group, Inc. (“SAN”). The one-day event brought together SAN members agencies along with partner companies, vendors, and SAN/SIAA staff for a day full of workshops, awards for excellence, anniversary recognition, networking reception, check distribution along with a keynote address and trade show.
According to Matt Masiello, SAN President and COO, the goal of the meeting is for member agencies to maximize their SAN affiliation through networking, education, and recognition opportunities provided. “Each year,” explains Mr. Masiello, “our membership increases, the economy changes, and technology creates new ways to conduct business. Our members need efficient and modernized tools to adjust their business plans and propel their agencies in the marketplace, regardless of the current industry cycle or overall economic environment. This annual event displays all the benefits of a SAN membership. No matter what the stage of their agency development, there is something for everyone.”
Highlights from the meeting
This year comedian, producer, former network TV host, and author, Ross Shafer gave the keynote address. Entitled, “SUCCESS: This Time It’s On You,” Mr. Shafer kept the tone light while delivering insights to members on how to grow your market share by understanding new customer buying habits and trends; staying “relevant” and taking action to ensure that you matter to your customers; and how your smaller size can make you more competitive.
The educational opportunities available included several workshops and panel discussions led by various partner company reps, industry professionals, and SAN/SIAA personnel. In addition, there also were three specific breakout sessions: “Improving an agency’s perpetuation plan and maximizing agency’s value”, effectively using an Agency Management System, and digital marketing activities used by large organizations and how the independent agent can adapt and apply them to their agencies (at minimal cost).’
As for the trade show, approximately 50 vendors participated and featured insurers, vendors and sponsors including The Hartford, Travelers, Liberty Mutual, Safeco Insurance, Nationwide, MetLife, National General, Berkshire Hathaway GUARD, Arbella, AmTrust, Concord Group, Capital Premium Financing, EZLynx, and Vertafore.
