Joel Murray CPCU

Joel Murray is the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Norfolk & Dedham Group. The Board of Directors officially elected Mr. Murray on March 8, 2017. He replaces F. Timothy Hegarty, who will continue in his role as Chairman of the Board at the Dedham-based insurance company.

“I owe a debt of gratitude to Tim Hegarty and our board of directors for electing me President & CEO of The Norfolk & Dedham Group®.  Tim has been a tremendous leader for our organization since being elected President & CEO in 1990.   I look forward to continuing to work with him in his role as Chairman of our board.  In regards to the future, I have big shoes to fill, but we have an outstanding group of employees and are represented by the highest caliber independent agents, so I feel confident in our ongoing ability to provide high quality local service and comprehensive insurance solutions to our policyholders.”

Mr. Murray first joined The Norfolk & Dedham Group in 1999 as a Marketing Representative and Research Analyst. During his 18 year career with the company, Mr. Murray has held several increasingly important positions. Prior to being appointed president and CEO, he was most recently an executive vice president with the insurer. Early in his insurance career, Mr. Murray also held various positions with both the Electric Insurance Company and with Hastings-Tapley Services in Cambridge. His career in the Massachusetts insurance industry began in 1992 as a Claim Representative with the Metropolitan Property and Casualty Insurance Company.

A graduate of Clark University, Mr. Murray went on to obtain his MBA from the Wallace E. Carroll Graduate School of Management at Boston College. In addition, he also holds the CPCU insurance designation.
