This week we turn to review who are the top commercial automobile insurance companies in the Commonwealth. The information reprinted here was provided by The Massachusetts Division of Insurance based on data collected during the calendar year 2016, the last year for which complete information is available.

There are currently 212 companies writing this line of insurance in Massachusetts

Two hundred and twelve (212) companies currently write Commercial Auto in Massachusetts claiming Total Direct Premium of $835,082,080 dollars.

Six out of the top 20 Commercial Automobile Insurance Companies are Massachusetts-based

The top 20 Commercial Auto insurance companies in the Commonwealth have a combined total of $547,057,695 dollars in Direct Written Premium. This amount represents a 65.5% share of the market.

Out of the top 20 companies writing this line of insurance, six are based in Massachusetts.

They are as follows:

  1. MAPFRE/Commerce;
  2. Arbella Protection Ins. Co.;
  3. Safety Insurance Co.;
  4. Safety Ind. Ins. Co.;
  5. Citation Ins. Co.; and
  6. Pilgrim Ins. Co.

The remaining 192 companies writing commercial auto here have Direct Written Premium totaling $288,023,385 dollars representing a 34.5% share of the market.
