Boston & Insurance Get Top Marks For Job-Seekers In 2019

July 9, 2019 by AC Editor

Two new job reports from Indeed Labs gives Insurance & Boston top marks

Good news for both the Greater Boston area and insurance. According to two different reports from Indeed Hiring Labs last month,  both Boston and insurance ranked in the top five with respect to the Best Cities for Jobseekers and the Best Jobs to have in 2019

Boston ranked in the top three for Best Cities For Job Seekers

In a June 13, 2019 report, Indeed Hiring Lab took a look at the best U.S. cities to look for a job in 2019. Among the criteria used to rank cities against one another was the following:

  1. In what places candidates faced the least competition for jobs,
  2. Where the highest salaries were being requested,
  3. Which cities had work with the highest-rated companies and
  4. In what urban centers did indviduals face the lowest likelihood of unemployment.

While California’s San Jose and San Francisco claimed the first two spots, Boston came in at number three as the best place to find a job. Here is what the report noted about Boston’s hiring scene:

3. Boston, Massachusetts

Job seekers in Boston face low unemployment (number five) and low competition for jobs (number six on job market favorability). Bostonians rate companies in the city fairly well (number 11) and have adjusted salaries near the middle of the pack (number 21).

Boston’s deep historical roots include deep ties to education. This Northeastern city is home to Harvard University, the oldest higher-education institution in the U.S. Over 150,000 students attend one of the city’s 31 colleges and universities, which employ over 35,000 workers. Nearly half of all young adults (43.1%) in Boston hold at least a bachelor’s degree, and 6.4% of its workforce is in education, training and library-related fields(compared to 6.1% nationally) — so this city is the place to be, no matter which side of academia you’re on.

Providence, RI also makes this year’s list

Coming at number 25 on the list, Providence was the only other New England city cited as a Best City for Jobseekers in 2019. The following is the complete list of the top 25 cities as ranked by Indeed:

        1. San Jose, CA

Insurance Also Gets Top Marks As A Best Job To Have In 2019

Following on the heels of Indeed Labs Best Cities For Jobs Report, the recruiting blog also issued its analysis of the “Best Jobs in the U.S.:2019.”

While the typical cutting edge tech jobs, such as Robotics Engineer, Salesforce Developer, Full-stack Developer and Machine Learning Engineer populated much of this year’s list, there were two notable exceptions within the top five positions to pursue this year. More importantly, both of these top five jobs within the insurance industry. Making its debut on the list as the second best job to have in 2019 was Insurance Broker. Close behind in the fourth position, just after Full-stack Developer, was Insurance Advisor.

Noting that the insurance industry is “hungry to attract new, young talent”, the report emphasized that the many benefits of being an insurance broker or advisor include an average salary well above the baseline level cited in the report and an impressive three-year growth of 242%
