Lowell, MA — Fred C. Church Insurance recently welcomed George Thompson, an authority on employee benefit compliance issues, to its insurance and risk management team. Thompson was hired as senior counsel and vice president of compliance and will have responsibility for addressing the health care reform regulatory and employee benefit compliance needs of Fred C. Church employee benefits clients.

John Reilly, Fred C. Church executive vice president and manager, Group Benefits, says, “With over 30 years of experience in the employee benefits industry, George will be an exceptional resource for our clients and his colleagues. He has vast knowledge of the federal and state regulatory, compliance and legal issues associated with health, life, disability, long-term care and other types of employee benefit insurance.”

Thompson arrives at Fred C. Church after almost a decade at Marsh McLennan Agency of New England, where he served most recently as vice president of employee benefit compliance. Of his new role, Thompson says, “I am both honored and excited to be joining the team at Fred C. Church. I look forward to continuing my practice of assisting businesses, schools, nonprofits and other entities to meet their compliance obligations in an ever-changing regulatory landscape.”

His broad understanding and expertise in the employee benefits arena makes Thompson a highly sought-after presenter. He has spoken numerous times on ERISA, the Affordable Care Act, and employee benefit insurance and compliance issues at public and private events throughout the Northeast.

Thompson received his B.A. from Dartmouth College, an M.S. from American International College and his J.D. from Suffolk University School of Law. In 2015, he was recognized by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as one of New England’s annual “Leaders in Law.” He has provided pro bono legal support to individuals and families in crisis through his past involvement at Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Health Law Advocates and Community Legal Aid of Worcester County. Thompson is also a past chairman of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Health Law Section, as well as a past adjunct professor of insurance law at the University of Massachusetts School of Law and the Western New England School of Law.
