David Bakst Named a 2022 "Go to Lawyer" For Business Transactions
David A Bakst

David A. Bakst, senior partner at Morrison Mahoney LLP, was named a 2022 “Go To Lawyer” for Business Transactions by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. Mr. Bakst, who has been with Morrison Mahoney for over 50 years, leads the firm’s insurance agent and broker practice group as well as its insurance regulatory practice group. As he mentioned in his “Go To Lawyer” profile, however, his interest in insurance goes back even further, to his student days at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where insurance was his major field of endeavor.

After obtaining his degree from Wharton, Mr. Bakst went on to complete his law degree with Boston University before then achieving his Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation. Upon completion of his education, Mr. Bakst began his career in the insurance industry as an underwriting member of Lloyd’s of London.

In 1965, Mr. Bakst joined Morrison Mahoney and over the years became a material contributor to the firm’s growth from a small group of seven lawyers in a single Boston office to over 180 lawyers across ten offices stretching from New Hampshire to New Jersey.

Under his leadership, Morrison Mahoney’s insurance agent and broker practice group as well as its insurance regulatory practice group provide complete legal services for insurance agents brokers and carriers. In addition to agency mergers, acquisitions, sales and perpetuation, his groups’ services include licensing and regulatory matters, business brokerage arrangements, incorporation and formation of other business organizations, leases, employment and non-compete agreements, and other general business law matters.

In addition to his legal career, Mr. Bakst is also a published author, co-authoring the book “Insurance Agency Purchases and Mergers,” with Morrison Mahoney founding partner Robert M. Morrison. He also is a founding member of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel.

More about Mass. Lawyer’s Weekly “Go To Lawyer” List

Begun in 2020, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s “Go To Lawyer” List is a new feature showcasing leading lawyers from the Massachusetts legal community. The attorneys featured on this list were nominated by their colleagues and chosen by a panel from Lawyers Weekly. This year’s list focused on Business Lawyers. To become a “Go To Lawyer,” one must be experienced, with a record of success in cases and/or transactions, a lawyer to whom other lawyers make referrals because of his or her expertise and accomplishments and a lawyer who can think creatively and identify all options for a client.
