Former Owner of the Bernard Michals Insurance Agency

Bernard Michals, a well-known independent insurance agent in Massachusetts, passed away on March 23, 2023, in Sarasota, Florida, at the age of 85.

Mr. Michals was born to Harry and Jennie Michals and was preceded in death by his brother Myron. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Michals, and his three sons, Brad (Susan), Jim (Margaret), and Doug (Rebecca), as well as his seven grandchildren, whom they lovingly referred to as “Papa”: Drew, Matt, Mikayla, Ali, Jess, Madison, and Katelyn. He was also an uncle to Jonathan, Jules, and Evan.

Mr. Michals had a long and distinguished career in the Massachusetts insurance industry as the former owner and president of the Bernard Michals Insurance Agency, serving the insurance needs of his community for many years.

In addition to his insurance career, Mr. Michals also was a highly accomplished individual, having served as a Lieutenant in the Navy. A graduate of Union College, Mr. Michals was a co-founder of Massachusetts Youth Ice Hockey and also a former USA Hockey Director and President of the Hockey Equipment Certification Council.

Known for his compassionate nature, Mr. Michals was dedicated to his community as evidenced through his work with various organizations.

A funeral service was held in honor of Bernard on April 3, 2023, at Temple Reyim in Newton, followed by interment at Newton Cemetery. Shiva was held at the home of Brad and Susan on April 3 from 1-3 pm and 5-8 pm.
