New Captain At The Helm Of Acadia’s Specialty Marine Unit

Company announced the realignment saying it will better serve agent and customer needs

Acadia Insurance recently announced that Mark Groenheide will assume the leadership position in the company’s Specialty Marine unit. As the new Assistant Vice President -Specialty Marine, Mr. Groenheide will be responsible for leading the Specialty Marine unit and to coordinate its overall growth and profitability. Acadia Insurance’s Specialty Marine line provides both Inland and Ocean marine insurance products to its agents throughout the Northeast.

Agency Checklists, MA Insurance News“Since joining Acadia in 2010, Mark has built a solid track record of product innovation, marketing and customer service,” said Dave LeBlanc, CPCU, Regional Vice President & Branch Manager, Acadia Insurance.  “Mark has the vision and relationships to guide our Specialty Marine group to greater results in terms of growth and agency support.”

In 2010, Mr. Groenheide joined Acadia as its Director of Marine. Prior to that, he was a Marine specialist at The Hanover Insurance Group before moving to the ACE Group as a Senior Inland Marine Underwriter for its Global Property Division.

Mr. Groenheide replaces J. Barry May who will now be Acadia’s Technical Underwriting Director

J. Barry May who had been at the helm of the Acadia’s Specialty Marine Unit for a number of years, will transition to Technical Underwriting Director for the Maine-based insurer. In this role, the company says that Mr. May will support Mr. Groenheide being responsible for the the compliance with underwriting standards and procedures as well as for loss and production analysis.

A well-regarded insurance industry veteran, Mr. May has been with Acadia Insurance since 2007.  Over the course of his 30-year career, Mr. May has held various senior management positions with The Hanover Insurance Company, Allmerica Property Casualty Insurance Group and The Global Insurance Network, Inc.  Also, Mr. May has served in various other industry positions such as a member of the governing committee of Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers.
