Mass. DOI Launches Its 2014 Consumer Education Awareness Program

June 1, 2014 by AC Editor

“Know What You Have, Learn What You Need” is the name of the Division’s outreach campaign

The Division of Insurance has launched a new consumer awareness campaign that will see it visit various locations throughout the Commonwealth during 2014. Officially, the program began on May 15th at South Station. The Division, however, says that it will be conducting nearly two dozen appearances through the month of October.

“All too often, as insurance consumers, we only think about our insurance needs or coverage after a loss,” said Commissioner of Insurance Joseph G. Murphy in announcing the education program. “It’s human nature – no one wants to think about situations like storms or accidents or thefts. We are using these outreach programs to remind consumers that the few minutes they invest in reading their home or auto or health policies can save them a lot of headaches down the road,” Murphy continued. “Knowing and understanding what’s covered and where there might be gaps can make all the difference when they need to make a claim,” he concluded.

The following is a list of the latest six locations that the Division will visit during the months of June and July. The DOI website will be adding further dates at various farmers’ markets and community centers through October of this year in order to bring their educational message to the citizens of Massachusetts.

This free education opportunity to help consumers identify the coverages that they need may be something that agents should think about sharing with their clients. It is a good way to help them see what types of coverages they might need.
