MAIA’s Young Agent Committee Debuts New Website

August 17, 2014 by AC Editor

The new blog/website is focused on helping young agents build relationships within the Mass. insurance industry

The Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents has launched a new blog/website dedicated to its Young Agents Committee. While the MAIA has always had a YAC, the newly redesigned site focuses solely on the issues and events that are of most interest to young agents in Massachusetts. The new blog/site is accessed through the main MAIA website by clicking on the last title on the upper right hand tool bar on the MAIA website.

Led by the MAIA’s Staff Liaison, Melissa Murphy, the goal of this committee is “…to encourage young agents to get involved with and be aware of the MAIA and provide a viable source of new talent to operate within a training ground, for the development of future leadership to MAIA.” To that end, it is important to note that membership in the MAIA’s Young Agent Committee is open to anyone who has worked in the insurance industry for less than five (5) years and is age 40 or younger. Note that being a “licensed producer” is not required for membership in the YAC.

A busy autumn for the YAC

In addition to organizing its annual Golf Tournament and events for charity, the Young Agent’s Committee also organizes a variety of networking opportunities for young agents throughout the Commonwealth. For those looking to see what the YAC is about, on August 20th the Committee will be holding a networking event in Northampton at 5:30. Other opportunities to learn more about the YAC include attending the Committee’s monthly meetings, the Big “I” Conference in September or the YAC events scheduled during the MAIA’s Annual Big Event. A complete list of the YAC’s activities for Fall 2014 is available here.

Who runs the YAC?

As a committee of the MAIA, the YAC is run by no more than 20 members and is composed of a chairperson, co-chair, and past chair. While insurance company representatives are eligible for membership on the YAC committee, they are prohibited from serving as a Chairperson. The following is a list of the current YAC Committee members:
