The webinar is part of a pilot program in the emerging field of massive online courses (MAC)
Since its inception in 1887, the Insurance Library Association of Boston has been dedicated to providing the best resources available for the Massachusetts insurance industry. While historically this meant sourcing and lending the best book and periodical resources available, in today’s world this means finding and offering the best on-line and electronic insurance resources.
With that in mind, the Insurance Library has recently announced that it will be offering its first online webinar insurance program. The new program will be a “pilot” of the popular AINS -21 class that is part of the background for the national exam offered by the Insurance Library. While the course has no credits, it will be a full-fledged Insurance Library course that will delve into topics of basic insurance, insurance regulation, insurer financial performance, marketing, claims, risk management, underwriting and rate making, loss exposures and insurance policies.
The class will be taught by veteran Insurance Library Instructor Herb Fuchs and will be a series of live webinars which include slides and documents. Attendees will be able to view and manipulate the materials from the home or office and will also be 
able to interact directly during the on-line class. The class will cover the whole waterfront of insurance over eight consecutive weeks with online classes between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
How to take part in this class…
For those interested in taking this new course, the Insurance Library is offering a special introductory price of $200.00 to the first 50 people to register for the course. Classes will commence on October 1, 2014 and run for eight weeks ending just before Thanksgiving. Attendees will have the ability to review taped lectures if they miss a class and will be tested with online practice multiple choice quizzes which will be instantly graded. While this introductory course earns no credits, students may receive up to 25 continuing education credits if they take and pass the institute’s national exam.
Please note the course will be conducted through the popular Go To Webinar software from Citric Corporation, the company which also provides the very popular Go To My PC software that is used in many businesses. Students must have either a Windows or MAC computer, internet connection and speakers (either built-in or via a USB headset) in order to participate.
For the Insurance Library, this class is the first step in determining what type of future offering the Library might be able to offer both on-line and off to help keep this institution providing the most comprehensive insurance offerings possible.
