The new Boston branch sits over the Haymarket T Station
While the RMV’s new flagship Registry of Motor Vehicles branch opened for business on September 15th, today marked was the official ribbon-cutting celebration for the branch’s opening. In attendance were Transportation Secretary & CEO Richard A. Davey and Registrar of Motor Vehicles Celia J. Blue along with other MassDOT leaders, as well as various state and local officials.
“MassDOT is proud to welcome its employees and customers to this new space designed with them in mind,” said Secretary Davey. “For many, the RMV is their first interaction with government; we want that first experience to be as efficient and professional as possible.”
“I am expecting my employees to deliver extraordinary customer service,” said Registrar Blue. “We have constructed this facility to create a dynamic customer focused environment where we are better able to respond to the needs of our customers each day. We have dual licensing and registration counters and we are deploying new self service options like tablets and kiosks.”
The new branch will include the RMV’s first EZ-Pass Customer Service Center
The new branch, located at the MassDOT owned Haymarket Center, is at the corner of Hanover and Blackston Street. The new branch will be open weekdays from 9am to 5pm except for Thursdays in which it will be open from 10am to 6pm. The new site features many new amenities including dual transaction counters to allow the RMV to better manage the volume and needs of its customers on a daily basis, a more comfortable waiting area, increased privacy for customer transactions, free public WiFi. In addition, this RMV branch features a tablet station that eligible customers may use for online RMV transactions. It was also be the first RMV branch to offer an EZ-Pass Customer Service Center. Not only will customers be able to manage their E-Z Pass accounts, one will be able to join the program as well as apply for the residency program. Residents will also be able to pay their Pay By Plate MA bills at the branch as well.
The new branch will house 60 RMV employees and will handle approximately 30,000 customers a month. In addition to license transactions the branch will also hold hearings for the those seeking their license reinstatement as a result of a suspension or revocation. The new RMV headquarters at Haymarket is accessible by both the Green and Orange MBTA Subway lines as well as by more than 10 bus lines.
According to the RMV, the $13 million dollar build out of the new flagship branch was designed to be gold LEED certified and features energy efficient lighting, appliances and restroom facilities.
