December 8, 2015 by AC Editor

Mr. Cross passed away on Thanksgiving Day at Mass. General

Brent Cross, 58, of the Cross Insurance Agency of Bangor, Maine passed away this past Thanksgiving Day after a long batter with cancer. A life-long resident of Bangor, Maine, he was an executive vice president at the agency started by his father, Woodrow Cross.

According to his obituary in The Boston Globe, Mr. Cross, first began at his father’s agency in 1979. Over the next four decades with the family business, Mr. Cross oversaw the expansion of Cross Insurance from a single office to its now more than 35 locations throughout New England. He also oversaw the growth in staff at Cross Insurance from its initial five employees to its now more than 700 employees throughout the region. It is now the largest independent insurance agency in New England and the 37th largest independent insurance provider in the nation.

In addition to help grow the Cross Insurance brand, Mr. Cross was also instrumental in establishing the agency’s many partnerships with Boston sports franchises including the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins.

In addition to his work at Cross Insurance around New England, Mr. Cross never forgot the Bangor community. For over 20 years, he served as an adjunct professor and member of the board of trustees at his alma mater, Husson University where he taught undergraduate students in insurance theory and practice. In 2005, he was inducted into the Husson Business Hall of Fame. He also served as a board member for the Associated General Contractors (AGC), First Light Health Systems; the Sports Museum; and was a member of the Francis Crowe Society. Mr. Cross was also founding president of the Bangor Breakfast Rotary and an award recipient from the Maine Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) group.

He is survived by his wife, five children, four siblings, and his father.
