Mr. Dowd is a fourth generation independent insurance agent
The Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents (“MAIA”) has selected John E. Dowd, Jr. to serve on its board of directors. A board of directors member of the MAIA acts as the official representative of the Association to its members in their respective geographical areas.
Mr. Dowd is the president and chief executive officer of the Dowd Insurance Agencies, an independent family-owned agency based in Holyoke. Upon the announcement of his selection, Mr. Dowd said,
The Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents has a long track record for consistent support for the insurance agency community. I am very pleased to serve among this group of dedicated insurance professionals.”
A 1980 graduate of St. Michael’s College, Mr. Dowd is also an Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) and a Licensed Insurance Advisor (LIA). Prior to joining his family-owned agency, Mr. Dowd first entered insurance as an underwriter with the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. In 1982, Mr. Dowd joined The Dowd Insurance Agency.
In addition to his selection to the MAIA board, Mr. Dowd is also active in his community, serving on numerous boards including, the Sisters of Providence Health System, CityStage and Symphony Hall, Storrs Library of Longmeadow, Longmeadow Youth Football and the Longmeadow Youth Sports Council.
As president and chief executive officer of Dowd Insurance, Mr. Dowd represents the fourth generation to run the family-owned and operated agency. Originally founded by James J. Dowd in 1898, the agency has the unique distinction of being the oldest independent insurance agency in Massachusetts that has been under continuous family ownership. In addition to the Holyoke headquarters, the Dowd Agency also operates out of four other Massachusetts locations in Hadley, Southampton, Indian Orchard, and Ludlow.
