Mass. Agent Ray Gallant Wins Award At This Year’s Big I Legislative Conference

April 26, 2016 by AC Editor

Mr. Gallant is the owner of the Gallant Insurance Agency in Acton

Both the Big “I” and the MAIA announced, this past week, that Massachusetts independent insurance agent Ray Gallant received the 2015 Bernard J. Burns Award during this year’s Big “I” Legislative Conference. The Big “I” Conference held in April of each in Washington, D.C. is a change for independent insurance agents from around the nation to come to Capitol Hill to lobby and inform the government on a wide range of insurance issues affecting the independent insurance agency system.

According to the Big “I”, InsurPac “…is the federal political action committee (PAC) for independent agents and it works hand in hand with the association’s advocacy efforts. As a multimillion dollar PAC, it is among the top one tenth of one percent of all federal PACs in terms of size and effectiveness.”

Mr. Gallant, who is the owner of the Gallant Insurance Agency in Action, currently serves on the IIABA Government Affairs Committee. He was honored for his work with regards to InsurPac. Since taking over the helm as chair of InsurPac in Massachusetts three years ago, Mr. Gallant has overseen the increase in InsurPac contributions in the Commonwealth by $10,000 per year. In 2015 alone, InsurPac raised more than $50,000 dollars in Massachusetts.
The award, known as the Bernard J. Burns Award, is named after the former Big “I” President Barney Burns, In addition to being the Big “I” President, Mr. Burns also founded InsurPac in 1975, and served as chairman of its Board of Trustees until 1983. Throughout his length career, Mr. Burns was a tireless champion of educating agents on the importance of being politically active.
“Ray Gallant tirelessly promotes the importance of InsurPac and has made huge strides in increasing participation by Massachusetts agents since he became the state’s InsurPac chair three years ago,” said Schilling in presenting the award. “With Ray at the helm, Massachusetts recorded the second highest number of total InsurPac donors last year. He also leads by example—100% of his agency’s employees chose to follow his leadership and donate to InsurPac in 2015.”
