Paul Franklin Meagher
Paul Franklin Meagher, President of the Workers’ Compensation Rating and Inspection Bureau of Massachusetts passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2016 while vacationing in Maine with his family. He was 64.
A native of Massachusetts, Mr. Meagher was born in Worcester, but was raised and educated in Hubbardston. He graduated from the Quabbin Regional High School in Barre going on to earn both his undergraduate and law degrees from Suffolk University. For the past 23 years, he called Sudbury home.
Mr. Meagher leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Adeline E. (Mendonca) Meagher, and his three children: Madeline E. Malatestinic and her husband Nicholas J. of Astoria, NY, Michelle E. Meagher and her companion Forest L. Westbay of Burlington, VT and Robert Meagher of Hubbardston.
A 20-plus career with the WCRIB of Massachusetts
A well-known figure in the Massachusetts insurance industry, Mr. Meagher spent over 25 years with the Workers’ Compensation Rating and Inspection Bureau of Massachusetts. He first joined the Rating Bureau in 1990 as its General Counsel. In 2000, he was elected President, a position he held until his untimely passing.
Prior to joining the WCRIB, Mr. Meagher served as Senior Counsel at Associated Industries of Massachusetts and was a staff member of State Senator Robert D. Wetmore. In addition to these positions, Mr. Meagher also was one of the original gubernatorial appointees to the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council.
The WCRIB officially closed on Friday at 2PM so that employees, many of who worked with Mr. Meagher for many years, would be able to attend his funeral services. On its website, the WCRIB of Massachusetts officially noted his passing, saying:
With great sadness, we regret to report that Paul Meagher, President of the WCRIBMA, died suddenly on July 2nd, while on vacation with his family of a heart attack.
Paul had a long and distinguished career with the WCRIBMA, starting in 1990 as General Counsel and being elected President in 2000. Earlier in his career he served as Senior Counsel at Associated Industries of Massachusetts and was on the staff of State Senator Robert D. Wetmore. He was also one of the original gubernatorial appointees to the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council.
Paul will be greatly missed by all those who knew and worked with him. He was a true champion of the Massachusetts workers’ compensation industry and known for his abilities to work with and gain consensus among the many workers’ compensation industry constituencies.
