Mr. Asher succeeds Matthew D. Nickerson in the top spot at Safeco

Liberty Mutual Insurance has announced that Tyler Asher has been appointed the new president of Safeco Insurance. Mr. Asher will succeed outgoing president Matthew D. Nickerson, who has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer of Liberty Mutual Insurance’s Global Consumer Markets East Region.
“The marketplace for personal insurance is rapidly changing and Tyler’s experience with agents, his knowledge of the industry and commitment to innovation will help us continue to grow our already strong position in the independent agency channel,” said Jim MacPhee, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Liberty Mutual U.S. Consumer Markets.
In a career spanning almost 18 years with the insurer, Mr. Asher has served in a wide variety of roles at Safeco from positions in finance and accounting to management reporting and analysis.
Prior to being named President, Mr. Asher most recently served as Safeco’s vice president, Distribution Insights, a position which entailed leading the company’s strategy, planning, and innovation, in addition to managing operational and advanced analytics. Most notably, Mr. Asher and his team were responsible for creating and implementing Safeco’s “Insurance Advisor” skill for Amazon Alexa. The company was the first insurance carrier to debut a skill on the Amazon device, enabling consumers to better understand and navigate the insurance process using only voice commands.
Mr. Asher, who will be based out of Safeco’s Seattle office, is an active member of the community, supporting several health and human service organizations. In addition, he is also involved with the Accounting Careers Awareness Program, a non-profit dedicated to encouraging inner-city youth to look at careers in business, finance, and accounting.
