Ellen Barnett, CPCU, AIC, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Plymouth on May 1st. She was 62.

A well-known and highly regarded Massachusetts insurance professional, Ms. Barnett spent 18 years with the Acadia Insurance Company, beginning as a claims manager before rising to AVP Claims/Senior Director of Claims. She went on to have a strategic relationship role with the insurer which culminated with her development of the company’s Synergy Program, “a large customer risk management program which acted as both an acquisition and retention tool ” that was highly regarded by both Acadia insureds and agents.

In addition to her time with Acadia, Ms. Barnett is also a former Executive Director of the Insurance Library of Boston. Since July 2015, she had been the Vice President Marketing & Public Outreach for ReGenAmerica, LLC.

An active member of the Boston CPCU Chapter, she served the Chapter in various capacities over the years first as secretary, treasurer and eventually President. In announcing the news of her death, the Boston CPCU Chapter said,

Ellen was a true champion of the Chapter, serving on the Board of Directors for many years and as the Chapter President from June, 2012 through December, 2012.  In addition to her involvement in the Boston Chapter, Ellen served at the national level, on the Leadership Managerial Excellence Committee and most recently as an Interest Group Governor.  Her commitment to the CPCU Society and the insurance industry were inspiring.”

Born on September 9, 1954 in Glen Cove, New York, Ms. Barnett was the middle child of the late Joseph Warren Doherty and Kathryn Rickert Doherty. She leaves behind her husband of 40 years, Paul, and their daughter, Jessica of Stow, as well as her siblings David and Marianne along with their respective families.
