The event was held last Thursday at the District Hall innovation space
In a testament to the growing “Insurtech” community in Boston, over 200 insurance professionals turned out for the latest Insurtech Boston meet and greet. The event drew insurance professionals from all walks of life. While Agency Checklists was not able to meet everyone, we did meet quite a few new Massachusetts insurance professionals while also spotting a few familiar faces among the crowd. Networking and Storytelling
The evening began and ended with cocktails and networking with the opportunity to hear stories of various success stories and start-ups within the insurtech sphere in-between. Two industry veterans, Curt Stevenson of Duck Creek (formerly AgencyPort) and Jim Fini formerly of Enservio and now a co-founder of Quilt, were the first to take to the stage to share both their stories and experiences in building and selling successful companies. After hearing from these success stories, four different start-ups were then given the stage to share their own journeys thus far. Speaking on behalf of the start-ups were:
- Todd Kozikowski, co-founder of Clearsurance, the online insurance rating and review platform aiming to bring greater transparency to the insurance industry via objective crowd-sourced reviews. To learn more about the company, please read Agency Checklists’ April 11, 2017 interview “A Clear-Eyed Look At the Insurance Industry, Courtesy of Mass.-Based Clearsurance.“
- Mike Sullivan, of Embroker. While not based in Boston, the online insurance brokerage platform does have an office here. According to its elevator pitch, the company provides technology that “…takes the pain out of insurance offers top offers top-tier service from the best brokers in the game, while partnering with the nation’s leading carriers to surface policies tailored to your company.”
- Nabil Aidoud, founder of Insurance Menu. Insurance Menuhas evolved since its inception in 2010. It now focuses on “modernizing how employee benefits and individual products are delivered to small businesses” by creating digital distribution for the agent channel.
- Alex Schwarzkopf, co-founder of Pillar Technologies. Born in Boston, but now based in New York, Pillar Technologies is the brainchild of three Wentworth graduates who have created “…a construction site risk management company for general contractors leveraging connected devices to provide information in real time.”
