Former Massachusetts insurance agent Robert S. Mirabito passed away on December 28th, 2017 surrounded by his family in Boca Raton, Florida. He was 82,

Originally from Hingham, Mr. Mirabito was born in Boston on Aug. 17, 1936, the son of Frank D. and Josephine (Zanco) Mirabito. A graduate of Boston University, Mr. Mirabito also completed post-graduate studies at Harvard, Northeastern and Dartmouth. He also was a Disabled American veteran from the Vietnam era and a highly decorated fighter pilot.

Many may remember Mr. Mirabito for his long career here in the Massachusetts insurance industry, the majority of which he spent as the CEO of Mirabito Insurance of Boston. He also was a member the Professional Insurance Agents of Massachusetts, now known as the MAIA.  Long recognized by his peers for his outstanding insurance background, his insurance brokerage firm offered access to insurance markets for large corporations, municipalities and marine coverage.

Although retired from the insurance industry, Mr. Mirabito continued to be actively involved in Massachusetts and was most recently appointed by Gov. Charlie Baker to serve on the Massachusetts Department of Veterans Services.  During his lengthy career, he also served as the Massachusetts Aeronautics Commissioner and was on the Massachusetts Board of Environmental Law Enforcement under the Commonwealth’s past five governors. In addition he was a former State Liquor License Commissioner, a former sports writer and “sports talk” radio show host.

A life member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts,  he also was a life member the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Harvard Club, and the Algonquin Club of Boston. An All-American quarterback, Mr. Mirabito was an avid boater and fisherman for most of his life and was a licensed “100 Ton Ocean Operator” with the United States Coast Guard.

Mr. Mirabito is survived by his loving wife, Mary and his two daughters, Camille Hyde and her husband, Paul of Marion and Laura Mirabito of Mattapoisett. He was predeceased by his son, Frank L. Mirabito and his sister, Rose Campito. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, relatives and friends.
