Liberty Mutual Unit Appoints Jon Tellekamp and Doug Manwaring as Chief Underwriting Officers

Mass insurance career news from Liberty Mutual John TellekampLiberty Mutual has appointed Jon Tellekamp as Chief Underwriting Officer for National Insurance – Excess Casualty, and Doug Manwaringas Chief Underwriting Officer of National Insurance – Public Entities and Programs. Both will report to David Perez, Executive Vice President and General Manager, National Insurance Specialty.

“We have dedicated industry and product teams that have been adding value to our brokers and customers for over 20 years by helping them better meet the complex needs of businesses that require a specialized focus on underwriting and services,” notes Perez. “Each team blends effective coverages with superior risk engineering that prevents the accidents that spark claims, and claims management that produces the best possible outcomes.”

Tellekamp is responsible for driving profitable growth in the retail admitted excess casualty space. He joined Liberty Mutual in 2005 as a Senior Underwriter and has held roles of increasing responsibility in the energy and excess casualty practices, most recently as Vice President, National Insurance Excess Casualty.

As Chief Underwriting Officer for National Insurance Specialty’s Public Entities, Manwaring will focus on growing and expanding the practice. He leads a team of underwriting professionals helping better manage the complex risks facing K-12 school systems, government operations and higher education, through flexible solutions and industry-leading services.

Liberty Mutual Surety Names Douglas Schrift Chief Underwriting Officer

massachusetts insurance hires Liberty Mutual Douglas SchriftSchrift Appointed to Develop, Launch and Grow Liberty Mutual’s Subcontractor Default Insurance Offering

To help better meet the full risk management needs of mid to large-sized contractors, Liberty Mutual Surety has appointed Douglas Schrift and charged him with developing the company’s Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) offering.

SDI is a two-party catastrophic insurance coverage that protects general contractors from losses due to a subcontractor’s failure to perform during the course of a project. It is a roughly $650 million market that is rapidly growing in today’s challenging construction market.

Schrift will report to Fran McGrath, Chief Credit Officer, Contract Surety, Liberty Mutual Surety.

“The booming construction market, a shortage of skilled labor, and competitive margins are causing large contractors to seek ways to protect their multi-year projects against subcontractor default,” said McGrath.  “By offering the product, Liberty Mutual is better able to meet the full risk management needs of contractors, from surety and SDI to primary, excess and specialty coverages.  Douglas’ experience and strong relationships with large contractors made him the ideal candidate to lead our SDI operation.”

Prior to joining Liberty Mutual, Schrift was Managing Director for Aon’s Construction Services Group SDI practice.  Before that, he was Vice President and Director of Risk Finance for Lend Lease Americas, the legacy operation of Bovis Lend Lease.
