The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is an agency of the United States federal government. It holds primary responsibility for enforcing the federal securities laws and regulating the securities industry, the nation’s stock and options exchanges, and other activities and organizations. Most companies with publicly traded stock must file annual 10K reports and quarterly 10Q reports with the agency on their operations and finances.
