Founded in 1925, Nationwide continues to be based in Columbus, Ohio
The Massachusetts Insurance Federation announced this week that it has welcomed Nationwide to its ranks. It becomes the 26th member company of the Federation.
Nationwide is a highly respected national company that has earned its sterling reputation because of its inclusive corporate culture, as well as its first-class fleet of consumer services,” MIF Executive Director John P. Murphy said. “We are honored to have Nationwide join our organization and are eager to begin working on their behalf.”
Over the past 85 years, the Columbus, Ohio-based company has grown, from a small mutual auto insurer owned by policyholders, to one of the largest insurance and financial services companies in the world. Employing more than 33,000 employees in offices across the country, Nationwide has more than $158 billion in statutory assets and has been ranked as one of the “100 best companies to work for” by Fortune magazine. The insurer is considered one of the largest and strongest diversified insurance and financial services organizations in the United States, and is rated A+ by both A.M. Best and Standard & Poor’s.
Nationwide is the 26th insurer to join this association
Founded in 2003, the MIF is the leading public policy trade association for the property/casualty insurance industry in Massachusetts. Over the last decade, the association has grown from six to 24 members. In addition to Nationwide, the MIF also recently welcomed Selective Insurance at the end of 2015.
The 26 MIF members companies currently write over $7.5 billion in property and casualty insurance premiums in Massachusetts. MIF members now account for three-fourths of all private passenger auto insurance premiums in the state, almost two-thirds of both homeowners’ and workers’ compensation business written in Massachusetts, and more than three-fourths of medical malpractice insurance premiums written by licensed insurers.
